Not Luminol based: It is not Luminol based and not carcinogenic.

No need to prepare immediately before use. The ready to use optimized formulation is stable upto 7 years at room temperature prior to mixing with water and upto 1 year once mixed with water. All other formulations in the market do not last more than few hours once mixed and they recommend that you prepare them immediately before use.

Ready to use (in non liquid form): Does not require you to wait for 20 or 30 minutes to dissolve like some of the tablet based luminol formulation require. Hemascein is a ready to use formulation that comes in solid form, dissolves in water quickly ensuring ease of handling, transport and storage, an attribute valued by crime scene professionals. The formulation comes in a solid form and is packed in a clear vial so that you can see through unlike some pouch products that you can only view once opened or unlike some liquid products packed in a dark brown bottle.

No safety issues as present in luminol based or luminol containing products: This formulation uses a dye used by eye doctors. Luminol based formulation have been linked to carcinogenicity/toxicity and mandates wearing of respirators. Did you know that significant liability claims have been paid to clean up a car or a house once sprayed with Luminol containing reagents. Read here in the study (Slide 29) .

No repeat spraying required, take your time taking pictures: Unlike formulations in the market that do not last more than 30 seconds or 1 minute, this formulation lasts as long as 13 minutes with considerable intensity without the need of repeat spraying. Thus, Hemascein avoids dilution of your stain and minimizes the loss of bloodstain pattern as routinely seen with Luminol containing products. Our fine mist ABAspray makes this process even more easier for you. Moreover, it allows use of ordinary camera for your photo shot and does not require complete darkness.

No issues on DNA recovery : Unlike literature showing lack of DNA recovery with some Luminol containing products presumably due to high amount of Urea and 50% -100% Hydrogen Peroxide in tablets that accompany some of these Luminol formulations, Hemascein formulation has been shown to recover DNA

Effect of Urea and Hydrogen Peroxide contained in 'Luminol/Hydrogen Peroxide tablets' on DNA recovery has not been thoroughly studied yet. It is currently assumed that the urea and/or high concentrations of Hydrogen Peroxide may limit DNA recovery as urea is commonly used to unfold proteins. The adverse effect of urea and/or Hydrogen Peroxide may be further accentuated with the over spraying of Luminol on unit surface area of a stain. Over Spraying is often used in Luminol as the reaction is short lived.

“ More than 10 years after the original homicidal event occurred, investigators retrieved the clothing from evidence and applied Hemascein to it. They noticed small reaction in small areas on the clothing. The lab was able to produce a full profile of human blood. Subsequently, the blood was matched through a CODIS hit to ….” Bloodstains As Evidence: A Field Manual  (Page 121)

Highest Sensitivity and Specificity:  Unlike Luminol containing formulations, you can use it with black substrates. Yes, unlike Luminol based formulations that boast of high sensitivity by using a large amount of hydrogen peroxide in their formulation and risking recovery of your DNA, Hemascein has the highest sensitivity even with lowest amount of hydrogen peroxide. You are always in control and in control of explaining the chemistry behind it when you are asked to do so in court.

“..in one case, it lasted 18 months on fingerprints found on a door”

No need for complete darkness:  Yes that is right. All of the existing formulations require complete darkness even though they may not claim so. In Hemascein, you do not need to do so. Imagine yourself working in complete darkness with luminol.

“Crime Scene personnel applied Hemascein® to the pathway leading to the area where they found the shoe imprints with an outsole similar to the impressions in the garage (See Figures CS4-6 through CS4-8). Numerous partial footwear impressions became visible after application of Hemascein®.” Bloodstains As Evidence: A Field Manual  (page 118)
